Process Control Solutions

Proportion-Air offers many solutions for the process control industry. Everything from simple I/P replacement to controlling the pressure of LNG with an 8″ flanged pressure reducing Burling Valve (a Proportion-Air brand) regulator.

SOLUTION: CONTROLLING THE POSITION OF A PROCESS CONTROL VALVE

Proportion-Air’s closed loop devices can be used in place of I/Ps or E/Ps. The superior performance of these instruments withstands vibration and does not require instrument air.

Among the various process control applications:

  • Control the position of a process control valve
  • Regulate the pressure of saturated steam to control temperature

SOLUTION: TEMPERATURE CONTROL

The pressure of saturated steam is directly related to the temperature of saturated steam. We provide high accuracy pressure controllers and team those up with air piloted steam regulators for a totally closed-loop saturated steam pressure control package.

Because our product has a closed-loop, it eliminates the complexity of PID control. We monitor the pressure of the saturated steam and then close the loop around the steam. Because we’re closing the loop around the pressure (i.e. temperature), we eliminate the need for the PID controller. This simplifies the system and allows for greater accuracy without dithering back and forth, maintaining a “window” of temperature – in low to high pressure applications, including:

  • vulcanizing rubber products
  • cooking temperature control in food processing
  • temperature controlling chemical process application

The key to all these applications is precision – and that’s what our product provides. Because it is a closed loop system and because we use our steam regulator, we eliminate many of the parts typically required to control temperatures. Plus, there are fewer parts and fewer opportunities for breakdowns.

SOLUTION: TANK BLANKETING

If you use chemicals to manufacture products (e.g. face creams, household cleaners, etc.), mixing the correct formulas is critical. Many products, if exposed to sunlight or ambient atmosphere, will oxidize. In some cases, oxygen will cause the chemical to solidify. Therefore, you likely need to maintain a blanket

You also need a regulator to maintain the gas in your tank at the same pressure, regardless of how much material is left in the tank. This must be done in a closed loop; as the liquid is replaced in the tank and the gas pressure increases, the excess must be vented. Our product does this automatically.

You want to know at all times that the pressure in the tank is where it needs to be. Our standard monitor output signal is perfect for data acquisition and verification of pressure – even at very low pressures. With big tanks, our product is precise at pressures even as low as one inch of water column.

SOLUTION: RELATIVE HUMIDITY CONTROL (Increase)

There are manufacturing environments in which temperature needs to be maintained at 70 degrees Fahrenheit and relative humidity has to be maintained as well (e.g. making micro-chips; micro-processors). If the atmosphere is too dry, static electricity could damage the chips you’re manufacturing, polishing and packaging. Therefore, you need relative humidity sensors throughout the facility. These sensors give a command signal back to a controller/computer to maintain pressure of the dispensed moisture.

Our liquid regulator dispenses the water through a nozzle but also further atomizes the water. So you have an electronic pressure regulator that’s controlling the pressure of air through the atomizing orifices – and precisely proportional to the humidity increase required.
